The Very First Android 11 Custom ROM Is Now Available – Android Headlines

According to recent development, XDA member abhishek987 has built Android 11 based custom ROM for Redmi K20 Pro aka Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro.

Note that Redmi K20 Pro is sold in India, while it is sold in Europe and other regions under the name Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro. Google released the Android 11 operating system for its Pixel devices on September 8.

Besides, along with this, the company also shared the source code of Android 11 for the release of AOSP. However, one developer was already on guard. And developed a custom ROM based on Android 11 for Redmi K20 Pro aka Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro.

Android 11 packs tons of new features that have got tech enthusiasts excited. Moreover, now users can AOSP Android 11 ROM on their Redmi K20 Pro or Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro.

For those who don’t know, AOSP is the stock Android version that Google is releasing. Basically, it’s a ROM without the GApps. However, this custom ROM also includes some non-AOSP features.

All the basic features work with a few caveats in this Android 11 Custom ROM

As you would expect from a custom ROM, all of the basic hardware features work. But there is a major problem with this ROM and that is that SELinux is set to permissive.

This means that ROM has security implications. Apparently, this ROM is not meant to be flashed on a daily driver, and users can go ahead and install it only if they’re okay with running a less secure version of Android.

Talk about the features that work, as shown by XDA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Camera (Photo and Video), Audio, Sensors, LEDs, GNSS, and most importantly, RIL (for Calls, SMS, Data, VoLTE) work without any problem.

GSI based on Android 11 can be started on most Qualcomm Snapdragon devices

Another interesting thing that XDA points out is that, according to one of their developers, GSI based on Android 11 can boot on most Qualcomm Snapdragon devices.

Provided they run on Android 9 or 10 out of the box. Thanks to Project Treble which launched with Android 8.0 Oreo, developers have the freedom to develop custom ROMs almost in stock.

So this is the first custom ROM based on Android 11. In the coming days, other developers will also integrate their custom ROM versions based on Android 11 for different devices. So stay tuned.
