The unique 2-ingredient sparkling cocktail that Tom Hanks invented on a whim – Tasting table

Champagne is a very specific drink. Although there are several types of champagne and many wineries that produce this drink, they are legally required to be located in Champagne in France and use specific production methods. That said, there are plenty of alternatives you can swap with a Diet Cokagne, like American sparkling wine or Italian prosecco if you don’t mind giving away the name a bit.

Maybe you’re not a fan of champagne or other sparkling wines at all, but the idea of soda and wine has you intrigued. While it can be argued that Hanks’ creation is completely original, the pairing of soft drinks and wine is very busy territory, especially in Spain. One of the most popular cocktails in the country, especially during the summer months, is the Kalimotxo, different from the Tinto De Verano.

Kalimotxo is a combination of equal parts Coca-Cola or other cola drink and red wine, preferably Spanish. It is an effervescent cocktail that is both light and fruity, but with depth and spice. If you want even more fruit, also try the Tinto de Verano, which swaps cola for lemon-lime soda for a light drink that’s a bit like another famous Spanish drink, sangria.
