The Rivian R2 is the brand’s new entry-level electric SUV. But he has a brother. At the R2 launch event, Rivian launched the new R3, an even more compact SUV, with a performance-focused R3X version.
Details on the sporty SUV are still slim, but we do know that it will have a three-motor setup. And if the R2 can go 300 miles on a charge while hitting 60 miles per hour in less than three seconds, the R3X should be even faster.
From a visual standpoint, the R3X looks quite sturdy. Bigger wheels and tires and a slight increase in ride height should help it on the trails, and extra coating around the bumpers and wheel arches will help protect it from the elements. It also has orange accents dotting the exterior; mirror caps, bumpers, tow hooks, etc.
The interior features two-tone black and beige seats with orange inserts and aluminum accents. CEO RJ Scaringe calls the interior “robust and playful, because it looks rugged and playful.” Other eco-friendly materials, like cork and anodized metal, are found everywhere.
There still isn’t much information on the Rivian R3X, but we should learn more about the full lineup of new Rivian SUVs – R2, R3 and R3X – in the coming weeks.
