Up to 32,000 fans per day will be allowed to attend the Open Championship at Royal St George’s in July.
The tournament, which runs July 15-18, was canceled in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The government has delayed the easing of all remaining Covid-19 measures until July 19, but will allow a “significant” number of fans on the Kent course.
“These fans will play a huge role in creating a very special atmosphere,” said Martin Slumbers, Director of R&A.
“I want to recognize the support and understanding we have received from government and public health authorities, fans, players, our patrons and partners, as we have gone through this extremely difficult process.”
Up to 10,000 fans are allowed at outdoor sports venues, but some events, such as the 149th Open, are treated as fan pilots under the government events research program.
