Throughout his excellent career, Brad Pitt has proven his chemistry with a wide range of fellow actors. Since 1992 A river runs through itPitt detailed the on-screen sparks with Tom Skerrit, which showed he could generate classic acting moments with another featured performer.
Pitt’s effort alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in Quentin Tarantino Once upon a time in Hollywood also shows the kind of effort the actor can put in when paired with someone with as much talent as him. The relationship between Rick Dalton and Cliff Booth is one of friendship, showcasing the deep talents of the film’s actors.
However, Pitt wasn’t thrilled with all of the actors he was cast with. Early in his career, Pitt had a breakthrough performance in Neil Jordan’s film. Interview with the Vampirebased on Anne Rice’s 1976 novel of the same name. Tom Cruise played the vampire Lestat and Pitt played Louis, a man bitten by Lestat who then undergoes a transformation into a vampire.
The film takes place over several hundred years, with one narrative set in the present day as Louis tells his story to a journalist played by Christian Slater, while the other documents Louis’ vampiric transformation which took place in 1791 in Louisiana. Two Academy Award nominations arrived for “Best Art Direction” and “Best Original Score,” and the film’s commercial success followed.
It seems, however, that Pitt hated being involved in the film’s production. In an interview with THIS, Pitt opened up about how filming the film in London made him depressed on set. “London was really dark,” he said. “London was dead in winter. You go to work in the dark – you enter this cauldron, this mausoleum – and then you to go out, and it’s dark. I tell you, one day it broke me.
The sullen atmosphere on the set of Jordan’s film led to an argument with Cruise, who had already established himself as a movie star in the 1980s. At times, Pitt felt like he was playing second fiddle to his co-star. “In the book, he’s a guy who goes looking for discovery,” Pitt said of his character. “And in the meantime, he has this Lestat character who fascinates him and hates him.”
However, the film seemed to focus on Cruise’s Lestat, or as Pitt puts it: “They took the sensational aspects of Lestat and made it the pulse of the film, and those things are very nice and very good, but to me, there was simply nothing to do. The result was that Pitt fell largely into the shadows and a rift began to emerge between him and Cruise.
In an interview with First of the year after Interview with the Vampire was released, Pitt explained the differences between him and Cruise. “You have to understand, Tom and I are… we’re walking in different directions,” the actor said. “He’s from the North Pole. I’m in the south. He comes over to you with a handshake, and I might bump into you, but I won’t, you know? »
There’s a sense of bitterness in Pitt’s words in the 1990s, and by all accounts he never wanted to work with Cruise again, saying they were on different paths and it was unlikely that they converge again. And the truth is, Pitt and Cruise have never starred in a movie together, and unless some drastic fortune comes to the film industry, it’s likely they never will.
