Now that cars, especially electric cars, are becoming something like smartphones on wheels, some of the dynamics that played out in the early days of the mobile industry are playing out in the automotive industry. Competition between the two stalwarts of the smartphone industry has gained new momentum over the past two years, with Google racking up partnerships with automakers for the car version of its Android operating system, and Apple teasing plans to extend its software capabilities in the car.
