As was the case with several automakers, McLaren had to rethink how it would present its next Longtail model to the world after the cancellation of the Geneva Motor Show. Plan B will be to unveil the car from home in Woking, Surrey, UK during a livestream for everyone with an Internet connection to see.
The exact name of the vehicle has not been revealed, but the new supercar should be based on the 720S. If this is the case, it can only mean that the power will increase while the weight will decrease given the improvements that the 675LT has made to the 650S on which it was based. A more elegant body with an elongated rear will make the car live up to its Longtail name which dates back to the 1990s during the golden era of the iconic F1.
The new McLaren LT is likely to make generous use of carbon fiber to reach the diet, and may lack some of the comfort features to further reduce weight. With probably more power coming from the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, there is a good chance that engineers will install a more powerful brake package than those available on the 720S.
As with just about all special modern McLaren models, the price will be high while production figures will be low. New shiny wheels with sticky tires are likely on the menu, as the LT will be a track-oriented machine that will build on the already impressive performance of the 720S.
In addition to unveiling the new Longtail, McLaren will also share some news on future products and talk about his updated business plan. Maybe we can finally learn a thing or two about a P1 successor.
The livestream will start at 8:30 GMT / 3:30 AM EST.
