This might surprise some people, but we’ve seen this teaser before. Earlier this year, Koenigsegg released an image of the shadowy silhouette of a mysterious new model. At that time, the Swedish hypercar brand said the car had “more ultimate performance through smart engineering and optimal design”. Fast forward to August 19 and the official debut is about to happen.
The niche brand has been tight-lipped about its new creation, so rumors will have to suffice for now. The car in question is believed to be labeled “CC12” and is the result of a tie-up with Carage, which is a hypercar dealership. Judging by the teaser image, the form seems to be going back to Koenigsegg’s early days with the CCR and CCX.
It’s unclear if the car will be one-off or if there are plans for a longer production run. (we heard 50 will be made). Anyway, it will be exclusive like all the other models before. Some say it will serve as an “entry-level” model, although others claim it will cost $4 million. We know for a fact that it won’t be the fastest car in the company. Aiming to break the 300mph barrier, Jesko Absolut has already been awarded the role of the fastest road car ever made by Koenigsegg.
While the CC8S had a V8 engine (Original Ford) and the new car is presumably called the CC12, does that imply it will have a twelve cylinder engine? We wouldn’t necessarily count on it since Koenigsegg remains a small company and relies on its V8 as well as the new three-cylinder twin-turbo engine and a small displacement of 2.0 liters for the four-seater Gemera. Developing a V12 would require a lot of R&D effort and the Swedes might not have the necessary bandwidth.
Some think it’s called CC850S to mark 50 years of Christian von Koenigsegge anniversary. It could have over 1,300 horsepower in a car that weighs 1,300 kilograms (2,866 pounds). Interestingly, power could be routed to the wheels via an automatic transmission with some sort of manual shifting.
Of course, these are just rumors and speculation at this point, but the good thing is that we won’t have to wait much longer for all the official details.
