Glass hair may have found its place, as the latest trend to take hold of TikTok promises unparalleled levels of shine. Dubbed “liquid hair,” the trend is (sorry) rooted in the resurgence of beauty trends from the ’90s and early’ 90s, which favored shiny locks over the matte, matte beach waves we’ve been wearing all the last few years.
You’ve probably seen the look all over the red carpet and on social media, parading several famous faces, including Kim Kardashian, Megan Fox, Zendaya, and Ciara. While it was once considered cool to look like you didn’t care about your hair, a sleek salon finish now seems to be preferable for this ‘rich girl’ polish.
That’s right, the ‘effortless undone’ look that was so popular over the past few seasons has officially been ousted for ridiculously shiny supports that glow with health and richness, as it seems such a sparkle is surely due to many expensive hair treatments.
At least, that’s the aesthetic – in fact, a number of celebrity hairstylists have revealed that the key to achieving that coveted “liquid” look actually lies in the styling products. We also need to make it clear here that “liquid” hair is totally separate from the wet look trend, as this very shiny and silky look is actually achieved with dry oil.
During a recent outing to New York Fashion Week, acclaimed hairstylist (and Rihanna benchmark) Ursula Stephen shared on social media that she used TRESemmé Smooth Dry Oil Spray to give the singer Ciara’s XXL ponytail “the perfect amount of shine without compromising on style” because “there is a difference between shiny and bold”.
Likewise, fellow hairstylist to celeb Jesus Guerrero – who looks after Kardashian, Katy Perry, Christina Aguilera, and Kylie Jenner – used a nourishing oils cocktail on Fox ahead of her brunette Barbie tour at the 2021 iHeartRadio Music Awards.
Guerrero opted for OGX’s Extra Strength Moroccan Argan Oil Brilliant Mist and No-frizz + keratin miracle shine spray to give the fox that enviable shiny finish.
Consider this liquid hair trend as a sign to start investing in your hair health again (or at least pretending via a dry oil spray).
