There’s no denying it – #vanlife is stronger than ever in 2020, but younger generations may not realize it’s not a new trend. Go back about 40 years and you will find a rich collection of full-size vans carrying an abundance of golden, brown and orange graphics on the outside, with brown and orange carpet on the inside. It was the 1970s after all; Fortunately, the colors changed to cooler shades of blue and gray in the 1980s and 1990s, until these vans fell out of favor in the 2000s.
Creative Mobile Interiors employees are not yet ready to let this original conversion era die. This 1984 Ford E-150 looks very retro with its golden exterior and bold stripes on the side. Aside from the aftermarket wheels, you could say that this old Ford pickup truck looks like a well-groomed survivor from the early 80s. Going inside, however, reveals an epic transformation that swaps the long pile carpet for more suave wood and an extremely smooth greenhouse for road travel in style.
We were so won over by this project that we contacted Creative Mobile Interiors for more information. They sent us a pack of high-resolution photos (below) detailing the exquisite interior work, from the padded seats to the wooden floor and the elegant headlining with recessed lighting. The photos also show what the interior looked like before the company started working, which makes the transformation even more impressive.
Most importantly, we discovered the comforting story of this pickup truck that started in the 1980s. It was the adventure vehicle of choice for a growing family, but it was ultimately parked and left untouched for years. This couple – now grandparents – wanted to renovate the old E-150 for new adventures with children and grandchildren. How cool is that?
No, you will not find a sink or smart mini-kitchen hidden in the back of this cruiser. Things were a little different in the first #vanlife era. It wasn’t about trading your home for life on the road, but rather about creating a spacious and comfortable home away from home for epic vacation adventures. This old van seems ready to do just that, and honestly, we’re a little jealous, we can’t follow the route.
