The “i” icon on an Apple Watch is used to display information about your watch and to manually pair it to an iPhone. You can also use the “i” icon in the Watch app on your iPhone to unpair your watch.

The “i” icon on your Apple Watch is a useful tool for displaying additional information and pairing your watch with your iPhone. Let’s take a closer look at the “i” icon, including what it does and how to use it.

What is the “i” icon on an Apple Watch?

Throughout the Apple ecosystem, the “i” icon, which appears as an “i” surrounded by a circle, simply means “information.” It is used on your iPhone and Apple Watch to display additional information and preferences. The circled “i” is also used to manually pair and re-pair your Apple Watch to your iPhone.

Where is the “i” icon on an Apple Watch?

You’ll find the “i” circled in various places on your Apple Watch, usually on the right side of the face or in the lower right corner.

For example, you’ll find it under Settings > Bluetooth or when you tap on a card in your wallet app and scroll down to reveal the “Card Info” button.

However, the most common place you’re likely to encounter this button is when pairing your watch.

When you turn on the Apple Watch, a moving pattern appears on the screen. Scan this mobile pattern with your iPhone’s camera (the pairing process should start automatically) to pair your Apple Watch with your iPhone.

In the lower right corner of the screen, next to the movement pattern, you will find the “i” icon. This is useful if you are unable to pair your Apple Watch using the standard method. On your iPhone, press the “Manually Pair” button, then press the “i” button on your watch.

You’ll see a set of numbers on your watch, which you can enter into your iPhone to manually complete the pairing process.

You can also use the “i” icon in the Watch app on your iPhone to view additional information, find your watch, or unpair the two devices.

To access the icon, navigate to the “My Watch” tab and tap “All Watches” in the upper left corner of the screen. A list of paired portable devices will appear with the familiar “i” icon next to each entry.

Tap the “i” icon to view useful information, including the version of watchOS you’re using, your exact Apple Watch model, your watch’s serial number, and unique Wi-Fi and Bluetooth identifiers.

You will also find the Secure Element ID, which is tied to the Near Field Communication (NFC) chip, under the “SEID” menu.

Below these version numbers and identifiers is an option for “Find My Apple Watch”, which opens the Find My app, or “Unpair Apple Watch”, which will break the connection between your iPhone and the watch.
