The hardcore Porsche Taycan arrives March 11

Porsche has started the countdown to the world premiere of its top-of-the-range Taycan version. The debut is scheduled for March 11, when we will discover “the most dynamic Taycan of all time”. Marketing gimmicks aside, this hot electric sedan is likely a production version of a prototype that lapped the Nordschleife in 7:07.55.

After shaving 26 seconds off the Taycan Turbo S’s lap time and 17.6 seconds off the Green Hell’s Tesla Model S Plaid hot lap, the hardcore Taycan will be pretty darn fast. The new teaser image released today only shows a dark silhouette, but the Nürburgring car gave it all away. The large spoiler at the rear will easily distinguish it from lesser derivatives, although we’re sure Porsche has made other aerodynamic changes which we’ll find out about next week.

The most powerful Taycan to date is the Turbo S with 938 hp, which is already a huge increase considering the old one had 750 hp. You can expect the upcoming flagship to be even more capable, perhaps surpassing the 1,000 horsepower mark to match the Plaid with its monstrous 1,020 horsepower. Breakneck acceleration is a given given that the new Turbo S already reaches 0-100 km/h in just 2.4 seconds, which is 0.4 seconds less than the old Turbo S.

The name of the car remains a mystery, although some refer to the crown jewel as the Taycan Turbo GT. Another missing piece of the puzzle is the number of electric motors, as various reports indicate that Porsche engineers are preparing a third motor. However, take these details with the proverbial pinch of salt.

A third motor would add weight to an already heavy car, although Zuffenhausen could try to compensate for the extra bulk by putting the electric sedan on a diet. For reference, a Taycan Turbo S weighs 5,082 pounds in the United States.

With the facelift introduced about a month ago, Porsche has increased prices across the range. The Taycan Turbo S now costs $14,445 more than before, with a starting price of $210,995. It’s safe to assume that the Turbo GT, or whatever it’s called, will be expensive. Don’t be too surprised if it costs around $250,000, which is about the same price as a Lucid Air Sapphire. An AMG EQS starts at $147,550 while the Plaid is a bargain in comparison, at $89,990. However, whether Tesla is a luxury brand or not remains up for debate.
