The Cameroon players made their presence felt as they arrived at the Al Janoub stadium for their clash against Switzerland on Thursday.
The vibrant African nation descended from their team bus singing and dancing ahead of their Group G opener.
Unlike the usual scenes of players entering stadiums with headphones on, Rigobert Song’s side were in a celebratory mood as they kicked off their World Cup campaign.
Names such as Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana, Eric-Maxim Choupo Moting of Bayern Munich and former Fulham midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa could be seen dancing around the stadium.
Cameroon have long taken a lighthearted approach to football, with the country’s fans often bringing an energetic and fun vibe to matches.
And they didn’t disappoint Thursday morning when they showed up in droves amid the noise and color to support their team.
Cameroon’s best performance at a World Cup came in 1990 when the little-known African side were knocked out in the quarter-finals by a Gary Lineker-inspired England side.
A Lineker brace beat Cameroon in a 3-2 win but it was no scare for Bobby Robson’s men.
Since then, Cameroon have built a solid reputation and developed some of football’s greatest icons, including Roger Milla and Samuel Eto’o, who became their all-time top scorer with 56 goals.
And ahead of the match, Milla received a special award from FIFA, for being the competition’s oldest goalscorer given he was 42 when he scored at USA 94.
Nicknamed the Indomitable Lions, Cameroon have won the Africa Cup of Nations five times with their last success in 2017.
They will be dreaming of their chances of qualifying for the Round of 16 in Qatar with Brazil and Serbia to play after their game against Switzerland.
