The BMW X4 M vs Alfa Romeo Stelvio Drag Race is exciting and unexpected

Just like the electric vehicles that win drag races these days, SUVs are also becoming a trend in straight-line racing, effectively invading the market not only in terms of sales figures. These high-driving vehicles have gone from slow and large useful ones to fast machines that could even shame the supercars.

Among the luxury compact SUVs, the BMW X4 M Competition and the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio are among the most powerful. Both come from the Old Continent, offering an attractive option for SUV buyers who are in the segment for powerful driving.

Surprisingly, the X4 M Competition and the Stelvio Quadrifoglio are on exactly the same ground when it comes to their power. Which is faster, however? This video from South Africa Cars pit the two SUVs in a drag race, but let’s compare the numbers first.

The Alfa Romero Stelvio Quadrifoglio is powered by a relatively small but high-efficiency 2.9L twin-turbocharged engine capable of producing 503 horsepower (375 kilowatts) and 443 pound-feet (600 Newton meters) of torque. It weighs 3,660 pounds (1,660 kilograms).

On the flip side, the BMW X4 M Competition has a slightly larger engine – a 3.0L in-line S58 biturbo-6 which also produces 503 hp (375 kW) and 442 lb-ft (600 Nm) of torsion . Yes, that’s right, the two cars produce exactly the same power, even with completely different power plants. the Bimmer, however, is noticeably heavier than Italian, tipping the scale to around 4,200 lbs (1,900 kg).

Has the weight of the X4 M turned out to be a disadvantage compared to an equally powerful but lighter Stelvio? Watch the drag race video at the top of this page and share your thoughts on the results in the comments section below.
