With 61 million effective pixels on its full-frame sensor, the Sony A7R IV has set a new benchmark in resolution. The new generation rear-illuminated sensor provides 15 dynamic range stops.
In addition, the A7R IV can capture full-resolution 61-megapixel images in continuous shooting mode, and up to 68 images in continuous burst.
The new sensor also provides an increase of about 44% in the number of pixels compared to the A7R Mark III. In addition, a redesigned Pixel Shift multi-shot mode can produce images at a resolution of 240 megapixels. It does this by capturing 960 megapixels of data from 16 images, which it then composes together using Sony Imaging Edge software.
The A7R Mark IV also has 567 full-screen phase detection AF points that cover 74% of the frame. In the camera’s APS-C mode, it has 325 AF points which then cover almost the entire frame.
These additional points help maintain the impressive subject detection and tracking of the A7R Mark IV through the high resolution sensor.
In addition, Sony’s Real-Time Eye AF technology is built into the A7R IV. And it also works in video mode, not just with still images.
What else can you expect from the Sony A7R Mark IV? Sony has tightened its seal with a new waterproof seal along all of the seals, as well as the battery compartment cover and memory card slots.
Key features include 5.5-point, 5-axis body image stabilization, wireless connectivity, faster USB connection, 802.11ac Wi-Fi plus Bluetooth, and support for studio lighting.
