Make no mistake: He might be particularly popular right now, with Harry Styles, Taylor Swift and Shaun Mendes all cutting their teeth in Hollywood, but pop musicians’ transition to the big screen isn’t a new phenomenon. Take the iconoclastic androgynous David Bowie, the one who fell from the sky and took British culture by the nads: he starred in Labyrinth, puppeteer Jim Henson’s fantastic collaboration with Monty Python’s Terry Jones, in 1986, when Cher was also doing business on the big screen.
