Audi unveiled the fourth generation of the A3 Sportback at the Geneva Motor Show almost a week ago, and we’ve already seen a speculative rendering of its sedan cousin. Fast forward to today, long lasting Motor1.com Reader Tobias Büttner was kind enough to share his vision of the RS3 Sportback with us, using Audi’s elegant compact five-door hatch as official images.
Looking pretty much ready to compete with the Mercedes-AMG A45 S, the new Ingolstadt Quattro rocket takes the already sporty style of the A3 Sportback 2021 up a notch with larger air intakes at the front and two oval tailpipes on the back. The artist added a set of larger alloy wheels and lowered the ride height for a more aggressive stance, while adding the “nostrils” of the RS4 facelift inspired by the legendary Quattro.
Even if the RS3 Sportback prototype that we saw at the end of January did not seem to sport the horizontal slat above the grille – unless it was completely masked by camouflage – the production version will probably have it. How? ‘Or’ What? In preparation for the revelation of the A3, Audi saw the hot S3 model and the hot hatch had the Quattro nostrils, so it would be logical for the beefier RS3 to adopt a similar look.
Apart from that, the new RS3 Sportback should once again be a real monster in the compact segment thanks to its five-cylinder engine. It is said that the 2.5-liter turbocharger mill would get a healthy bump at around 420 horsepower, with Auto Motor und Sport reporting some time ago, an RS3 performance could hold up to 450 horsepower. It remains to be seen whether the rumor mill is correct, but Audi certainly does not want the 416-horsepower Mercedes-AMG A45 S to win the horse war.
It will take some time before the RS3 Sportback comes out, given the logic that tells us that the S3 will be revealed first. The two Audi Sport versions of the new A3 will generate sedans for North America where they will compete respectively with Mercedes-AMG’s CLA 35 and CLA 45 models. BMW joins the party with the M235i Gran Coupé and there is also a new rumor about an M2 Gran Coupé full of fat.
