maybe the year on TV should be defined by farewells, as three all-time classic series all ended their runs in beautiful and fitting fashion. Perhaps it should be defined by greetings, as 2022 has seen some absolutely fantastic debuts of shows that were unlike anything else on TV. Perhaps it was a year of franchise reinventions, as a few iconic properties felt new again with a pair of very different series? Or maybe we should just say it’s been a really good year, where each of the top four shows on this year’s top 20 list would have a compelling case for being the top show on a number of past lists.
