Erik ten Hag has doubled down on Jadon Sancho’s form not being ‘the problem’ amid the winger’s uncertain future at Manchester United.

The Red Devils boss and winger publicly fell out in October, with Sancho exiled from first-team training after criticizing his manager for claiming he had not trained well enough with the media.

Sancho has been on loan at his former club Borussia Dortmund since January and on Wednesday moved closer to becoming the first Manchester United contracted player to reach the Champions League final since 2011.

Dortmund beat Atletico Madrid 5-4 on aggregate in the quarter-finals. They will face Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-final on May 1.

But when asked if his winger’s current improvement in form would change his situation at Manchester United, Ten Hag had a clear answer.

“Of course I follow international football and I follow players on loan at other clubs,” Ten Hag confirmed.

“It was a fantastic match – Dortmund against Atletico Madrid. Great performance from Dortmund and for Jadon it’s good news, he made his contribution to Dortmund’s result.

“No [nothing has changed]. But we know that Jadon Sancho is a fantastic footballer, so it’s no surprise to us.

“That’s not the problem.”

The Man United boss wished the 24-year-old well as he left for Germany in January.

Since then, Sancho scored in the Champions League last 16 tie in the 2-1 win over PSV and has scored again in one of the six league matches he has started since February.

He also recorded two assists as he began to return to form after a difficult first half of the season.

He also suffered with his mental health last season, with Ten Hag saying he was unavailable due to “physical and mental” factors. He has seven goals and three assists in the 2022/23 season.

For now, Ten Hag and co will focus on their FA Cup semi-final clash against underdogs Coventry at Wembley this Sunday, which is live on talkSPORT.
