UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes defeated Frank Trigg twice in a row in the second title fight of the evening, sending Twinkle Toes to defeat via a naked rear strangler in a rematch that packed more drama in 4:05 than most players in five rounds.
After opening down, the two fighters met in the center of the cage and exchanged punches until they locked. While against the cage, Trigg grabbed Hughes with a low knee which was not caught by referee Mario Yamasaki. As Hughes retreated and tried to get his bearings, Trigg jumped up and sent Hughes on the canvas with his left hand in his jaw.
In great difficulty, Hughes caught a burst of shots on the ground as Trigg made his way to the mounted position.
Hughes tried to escape the bottom but ended up giving his back to Trigg in the third minute, and the challenger quickly capitalized with a bare choke in the back. Hughes’ face became crimson, but surprisingly, he was able to escape and follow this good fortune by picking up his enemy and carrying him through the cage before dropping him on his back with a branded slam.
