A Thai man was arrested near Bangkok for shooting his wife in the leg after a fight over the loss of their bitcoin investments, then barricading himself in his home for six hours as police surrounded the residence.
Called Kritsada by local newspaper The Thaiger, the Thai man attempted to kill his wife Pistamai, 31, after the couple argued over the loss of 700,000 baht ($19,500) in investments in bitcoins. Fearing further violence, the police negotiated with Kritsada instead of entering the house. He ends up surrendering.
Officer Manas Atthadod of the Uthai police district said he seized the .38 caliber pistol that Kritsada also used to shoot himself in the leg after shooting his wife.

Thai man charged with attempted murder following loss of bitcoins
It is still unclear what Bitcoin investments Kritsada has made. However, Thailand’s Ministry of Digital Economy and Society has said that more than 200,000 citizens have fallen victim to crypto scams. In late August, he warned Meta that it must combat fraudulent ads on Facebook or risk seeing the platform banned in the country.
The Thai man’s loss of Bitcoin occurred after Pistamai allegedly asked to be separated from him, leading him to regularly visit their home, The Thaiger reports. Although she is receiving medical treatment, she appears safe.
Her husband was charged with attempted murder and unlicensed possession of a firearm and ammunition.
