Who plays
Caroline @ Houston
Current records: Caroline 2-0; Houston 1-1
What there is to know
After two home games, the Carolina Panthers will be on the road. They will face the Houston Texans at 8:20 p.m. ET Thursday at NRG Stadium. Carolina will be hoping to build on the 16-10 victory they won against Houston when they already played in September 2019.
The Panthers toured the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, and the extra yardage (383 yards versus 128 yards) paid off. Carolina beat New Orleans 26-7. The team accumulated 17 points in the first half and managed to secure the victory. No one had a stellar game offensively for Carolina, but they did have scores from WR DJ Moore, RB Christian McCaffrey and WR Brandon Zylstra. Quarterback Sam Darnold has a 147.90 passer rating.
Meanwhile, everything was tied 14-14 at halftime, but the Texans weren’t quite tied with the Cleveland Browns in the second half when they met on Sunday. Houston fell to the Browns 31-21. One thing that worked slightly against Houston was the regular play of their most focused running back, RB Mark Ingram, who ran for 41 yards on 14 carries.
Carolina’s victory took them to 2-0 while Houston’s loss brought them down to 1-1. We’ll see if the Panthers can repeat their recent success or if Houston bounces back and reverses its fortunes.
