When images and videos of the Tesla Cybertruck production beta were shared online, many EV enthusiasts were a bit disturbed. While the sighting of the production beta unit itself got plenty of excitement from Tesla fans, some were a bit miffed by the seemingly updated design of the rear of the vehicle.
This was partly because videos and images of the production beta version of the Cybertruck no longer had the original prototype’s red light bar that ran the length of the rear of the all-electric pickup. , including the tailgate. The rear red lightbar was one of the most memorable features of the original Cybertruck prototype, as it matched the vehicle’s lightbar-style headlight in front.
This sentiment was echoed among members of the Tesla community over the weekend, with popular accounts such as Silicon Valley Tesla Owners remarking that the original Cybertruck prototype’s red light bar is “100 times better” than its current iteration. Elon Musk responded to those sentiments, noting that the original red light bar will indeed reach the production version of the Cybertruck.
“Production will have a red light bar,” Musk assured.
With Tesla now producing Cybertruck production beta units, the all-electric pickup truck is closer to mass production than ever. But while Tesla executives such as Elon Musk and chief designer Franz von Holzhausen have noted that the Cybertruck’s design is mostly complete, details of the vehicle, such as its taillights, still appear open to modification. With that in mind, Elon Musk’s recent comments should give Cybertruck buyers some confidence.
Production of the Tesla Cybertruck has been delayed, but the wait for the vehicle may soon be over. During the fourth quarter and fiscal year 2022 earnings call, Elon Musk noted that the Cybertruck is expected to enter initial production this summer, although the vehicle’s true ramp will be evident next year. Despite all the delays, however, Musk and other Tesla executives argued the Cybertruck was well worth the wait.
