A 14-year-old boy was killed on Wednesday night as riots broke out in France after Les Bleus knocked Morocco out of the World Cup semi-finals.

Riot police lined the Champs-Elysees in Paris following trouble earlier in the tournament, but it was on the streets of Montpellier that footage emerged of a young boy being run over by a car after Victory 2 -0 from France.

A shocking video shows the moment a group who appear to be Morocco fans gather around a car displaying the French flag outside its window on Rue de la Mosson in the city.

The footage then appears to show the group trying to rip the flag off the car, prompting a panicky reaction from the driver.

The car can be seen making a U-turn to get away from the group, amidst a huge crowd coming down the street.

A teenager was caught under the wheels of the vehicle and was seriously injured, with authorities later confirming he died in hospital.

The car was later found abandoned.

This is not the first time that the post-match scenes have gone wrong in France during this World Cup.


On Saturday, 20,000 Moroccan fans descended on the Champs-Elysées after their quarter-final victory over Portugal, to celebrate becoming the first African and Arab country to qualify for a World Cup semi-final. .

But fights broke out between supporters and riot police, who fired tear gas into the crowd.

Around 100 people are reported to have been arrested after shops were damaged and cars set on fire in the French capital.

Police appeared better prepared in Paris on Wednesday night, with police vans and barricades lining the streets.

There were equally unsavory scenes in Nice, where fans were seen battling in the streets and throwing flares at each other, with police using batons and water cannons to quell the storm.

Violence was also reported in Belgium, with a group of around 100 believed to be Moroccan fans gathering near Brussels-Midi station to hurl fireworks and other missiles at lines of police in anti-riot gear. -riot – the cops also firing tear gas to disperse the crowd.
