How too strong is he?

Sony’s new portable party speaker delivers booming sound that may irritate neighbors, but those raging around the house will love it.

“Don’t play too loud, you will wake up the rest of the family!”

“The neighbors tell us to refuse!

“Turn up the volume to the max and let’s practice! “

“Mom, let’s play The ground is lava at full volume! “

These few exclamatory remarks have dominated my life since the Sony SRS-XP500 arrived home. Meet the new-age boombox, the party speaker, the giant audio beast. Call it what you want, Sony’s new speakerphone delivers powerful, immersive sound.

So much so that my humble room was not ready to be shaken deep inside us when we were playing Arena by Fabian Mazur and Snavs, a high adrenaline track for exercise.

My house wasn’t ready to listen either The ground is lava with such enthusiasm because we were all blown away by the rhythms and couldn’t help but join my three year old to jump and scream for joy.

What I’m trying to say is that I’m not a “rager” or a “party animal” or any other millennial term associated with the act of banging my head over loud music. And yet, even I couldn’t resist the urge to invite my fully vaccinated, mask-wearing friends to enjoy powerful beats on this speaker.

The speaker price is Rs 26,990 which is decent for a speaker of this size with a host of features. Remember, flagship wireless headphones are known to cost more than that. So here’s why the Sony SRS-XP500 is the perfect speaker for you if you like to entertain yourself and enjoy music to its full potential.

Portable only if you exercise

The Sony SRS-XP500 is portable, which means you can carry it around to parties and large gatherings in an elusive post-pandemic world. It doesn’t need to be connected to a power source at all times, although the sound quality is much more impressive when connected to power.

At 11.2 kilograms, it’s not something you can easily move unless, of course, you’re lifting weights! It’s a great black beauty if you will, with LED lights for those who like that kind of vibe. For an old soul like me, it was a real pleasure to listen to some Nora Jones classics with dim lighting and letting the LEDs set the mood.

For those wondering where to park this beast, you can set it up vertically or horizontally. The IPX4 rating protects the XP500 against water, so if you’re going to a dinner party with the XP500 as a date, don’t panic if someone spills their drink on it. Or in my case when my son spilled apple juice while dancing on Cocomelon Beats.

To show creativity

The party speaker market, believe me, is surprisingly large and well-documented with big brands diving into the space. It can be difficult to justify spending money on a party speaker when we’re mostly stuck at home to avoid a deadly infection.

So use the other features offered by the XP500, such as using the microphone and guitar input to turn the speaker into a karaoke machine! This can be a great tool if you call a few guests – who are of course vaccinated – and can be great in-house entertainment.

Battery that won’t give up

You had me at battery life! The XP500 comes with 20 hours of battery life and after 10 minutes of charging gives you 80 minutes of uninterrupted gaming with its fast charge feature.

So if you go camping, vacationing in the distant future, or even enjoying online workouts via bluetooth mode, the speaker won’t let you down.

A sound that can wake up the neighbors!

Pro tip: this is not for small bedrooms or small spaces as you are bound to annoy other members and parents unless you are disciplined with the volume. This is a testament to the powerful sound offered by the speaker. We used it at a dinner party with friends and had a lot of questions about the features.

I used it for a few kickboxing and Zumba workouts and the immersive sound kept my energy level high.

The technology here is packaged in two high efficiency tweeters with two X Balanced woofers. Every thud, click, crackle, bark and yes can be heard with pristine clarity!

Imagine what you could do with this speaker at a big party when you can safely attend?

The sound quality here leaves very little room for complaints (audio purists, that’s up to you) despite the fact that it’s a single front speaker.

Should we buy it?

This is a difficult question to answer at the moment. Are we ready to party? Not yet, I think. The country has opened up, people are going out to malls, restaurants, exotic destinations. So the market for such a speaker is ripe even now and if you are looking for one the Sony SRS-XP500 is the new age boombox for you priced at almost Rs 27,000.

Although I recommend the product, I do not approve of disturbing others with loud music. Do not attend crowded parties at this point, although cases are decreasing. So be adventurous, not sloppy.

Buy this speaker to enjoy amazing sound, beware of the virus and have a socially responsible gathering of fully stung friends who will enjoy the sound and sing a few out of tune numbers with you!
