“If we use them on a large scale, it is possible that it will help propel the progress of our technology and products,” Xu said in a speech at the World Computing Conference 2023 held in Changsha, capital of central Hunan province.
“It will be difficult, if not impossible, to obtain advanced computer chips or systems due to U.S. export controls,” Xu said. “Based on our past experience and our projections of future developments, this will continue to be a long-term problem.”
This is why Chinese companies must develop chips based on locally developed technologies free of restrictions to minimize this uncertainty, he said.
Huawei believes that China’s semiconductor manufacturing technology will continue to be in catch-up mode for a long time, according to Xu.
