After a stellar season in 2022 and poised for another strong season ahead, the TCU Men’s Basketball Team added PJ Haggerty to their already impressive list.
Jamie Dixon led the Horned Frogs to one of the program’s best campaigns in history, beating two of the most dominant schools in the nation, the University of Kansas and Texas Tech, and turning heads in the NCAA’s March Madness. The team showed great skill in advancing to the Round of 16 where they fell short in an overtime loss to the Arizona State Wildcats. Benoit Mathurin6th overall pick in the NBA Draft, and Christian Koloko, 33rd overall pick, proved to be too much, outplaying the Horned Frogs’ game plan. Despite the loss, the resilience and determination shown by this great squad of players put TCU on the national stage for the first time in years, no doubt playing a crucial role in signing PJ Haggerty.
The three-star combo guard played 26 games for Crosby High School and averaged 32.9 points per game, 6.5 rebounds per game and 2.8 assists per game. Over the course of his career, Haggerty has improved and evolved his game from long range shooter to crafting the skills needed to drive and attack the basket. Haggerty’s 6-foot-3, 170-pound frame allows him to soak up contact and be a force in the paint. Additionally, with the incorporation of long-range and short-range shooting, Haggerty has proven to be a handful for defenders, leaving them unsure whether to prepare for the pull-up jumper or the more physical game. and grainy defend painting. As opposing teams strive to avoid points at the edge and beyond the arc, mid-range play is often left wide open – another of Haggerty’s strengths. Moreover, having lost Francois Farabello at Creighton University through the transfer portal, Haggerty also has the potential to fill that much-needed role in attacking the Horned Frogs.
