Taylor Swift’s album Folklore became the first record of 2020 to sell over a million copies in the United States.
The singer-songwriter’s acclaimed eighth album was released in July as a surprise to fans.
According to Billboard, Folklore sold 57,000 copies in the United States last week, taking it back to number one on the US charts.
Its total sales now stand at 1.038 million, making it the only album to break the million mark in the United States last year.
Lover, Swift’s previous album, was the only album to have sold a million U.S. copies throughout 2019.
Swift’s eight studio albums have now reached that milestone, along with the festive record The Taylor Swift Vacation Collection.
Folklore was seen by many as a tonal departure for Swift, away from the smooth pop of 1989 and Lover and towards something more folkloric.
Swift recently began selling signed copies of Folklore on his online store for $ 25 (£ 19) each, causing sales to pick up.
“With the signed CD, some lucky buyers of these items may even receive free cat hair stuck inside the pages,” the singer joked on Twitter.
“Or the aromatic scent of white wine that I sometimes spill when signing.”
