Taylor Swift won’t attend 2024 Met Gala ahead of Eras Europe tour – PEOPLE

Taylor Swift is skipping the 2024 Met Gala, PEOPLE can confirm.

Despite reports that she would be present, the singer, who has just dropped her off Department of Tortured Poets album on April 19, will be absent from the biggest evening in fashion. Instead, she will focus on rehearsals and tour preparation before her Eras tour resumes on May 9 in Paris before traveling throughout Europe in the spring and summer.

The Met Gala, which always takes place on the first Monday in May, will take place on May 6, which would have been a very tight time before Swift, 34,’s tour.

TMZ previously reported that Swift and her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, would not attend the Met Gala this year.

Swift has already attended the prestigious party six times (her last appearance was in 2016) while Kelce has yet to make her debut at the prestigious event.

The Grammy winner has had a huge few weeks, following the release of The Department of Tortured Poets as she prepares to go on tour again. She took over the Billboard (again!), saw his album rack up 1 billion Spotify streams in a week and has emotionally shared rave reviews for his work.

It doesn’t matter, right?

While there will be a empty space With Swift absent, the Met Gala is sure to bring out all of fashion’s heavy hitters.

This year’s theme centers on the exhibition “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” which will feature approximately 250 items, including 15 significant pieces such as an 1877 Charles Frederick Worth silk satin ball gown, which span more than 400 years of history. “It’s really an ode to nature and the emotional poetics of fashion,” said Andrew Bolton, Wendy Yu curator in charge of the Costume Institute.

As expected, the dress code is themed “The Garden of Time” and is inspired by JG Ballard’s 1962 short story of the same name. The story follows a count and countess living “in their utopia of leisure, art and beauty”, as noted Voguewhich predicts stars will appear in ensembles paying homage to flowers, music and time.

Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Hemsworth and Bad Bunny will lead the pack as the evening’s four co-chairs. Although the Met Gala is a few weeks away, some of them haven’t finalized their looks yet (who can blame them, it’s a lot of pressure).

THE Challengers actress, already present five times (her crazy Cinderella transformations on the famous steps are simply unforgettable) told Vanity Fair recently that she still “doesn’t really know” what she’s wearing, but has “ideas.”

Meanwhile, the It’s me now the singer is still thinking about some potentials. “I have a few different sketches. I’m still deciding,” Lopez said Vogue this week. “I’m also one of those people who chooses at the last minute. Like, I like to make choices and then I say, “Okay, this is how I feel today,” and then we kind of try to create some kind of amazing look – because that’s the evening of looks!
