Taylor Swift’s new feature film Midnights debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart in the United States
As the superstar returns to No. 1 on the weekly chart of America’s Most Consumed Projects, Swift ties up one of the greatest to ever star in an awe-inspiring show of popularity and power.
Midnights is Swift’s eleventh No. 1 album in the United States, and with one more win now included in her discography, she’s tied with Barbra Streisand for the most female leads in Billboard 200 history.
The two stars have reached the top with 11 different titles, and it may not be done yet.
Of the two musicians, Streisand’s reign lasted much, much longer than Swift’s. In fact, the time between Powerhouse’s first No. 1 album (1964 People) and his most recent (2016 Encore: Film Partners Sing Broadway) is longer than Swift’s entire career.
Swift earned her first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 in 2008 with her second set Without fear, which transformed her from the hottest new name in the country to a true pop hitmaker. Since then, none of his feature films – whether made up of brand new material or re-recordings – have failed to reach the top of the charts. Swift is increasing her career total in near-record fashion, as she landed a pair of new No. 1s in 2020 and 2021.
Looking at all artists, Swift is now also tied with Drake and Bruce Springsteen, with 11 each. Ahead of all the aforementioned artists are the Beatles with 19 number 1s and Jay-Z with 14.

At the rate Swift is accumulating Billboard 200 champions, she could continue to climb that all-time ranking, though she still faces competition. While The Beatles or Streisand are unlikely to return to the throne, Jay-Z, Springsteen and Drake are still consistently releasing new albums, and they’re usually topping the charts or very close to it.
Drake could sever this new bond with Swift in about a week, although nothing is certain. A few days later Midnights abandoned, the Canadian rapper has revealed that he and fellow hip-hop 21 Savage have a new collaborative feature titled His losswhich should arrive in a few days. His loss could debut atop the Billboard 200 next picture, but it depends on the quality Midnights continue to perform.
If he opens first, Drake will earn his twelfth boss, once again rewriting the history books.

Midnights tops Billboard 200 with highest sum since Adele 25 reset the record books by moving over three million units in a single frame – a number that has never been matched and probably never will be. Swift’s set moved an incredible 1.578 million equivalent units in its first seven days of availability in the US alone, according to Billboard.
This nearly triples the previous record for biggest album debut this year, with Swift reclaiming that honor from ex-boyfriend Harry Styles, whose Harry’s house sold more than half a million copies.
