Taylor Swift may be the official answer to New Jersey’s biggest breakfast sandwich debate.
For years, dating back to the Civil War, Garden State residents argued over whether the meat in the state’s favorite egg and cheese breakfast sandwich was called Taylor ham or a pork roll. Even President Barack Obama took note of the issue years ago when he spoke at Rutgers University as his graduation commencement address.
Now NJ Governor Phil Murphy may have brought peace to the Valley. In honor of Taylor Swift’s performances at MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands, Murphy declared the “Taylor Swift ham, egg and cheese” as the official state sandwich.
“In New Jersey, we have a reputation for a big war between the Taylor ham and the pork roll,” Murphy said. said in a video message on Twitter.
“Usually we’ll let you call it whatever you want, but since we have a superstar coming to town, we know ‘all too well’ we should commemorate the occasion,” Murphy said in a tweet.
Swift has yet to respond to the news of her new sandwich status. She didn’t write a song about it either.
