No one is more excited about Ice Spice’s feature on the new “Karma” remix than Taylor Swift. In a clip shared by Spotify, the pop star gushed about her latest collaborator and explained how the team – which dropped at midnight Friday May 26 – came to be.
“Collaborating with Ice Spice on ‘Karma’ was one of the most natural things,” Swift said in the audio clip, shared by Spotify’s official Twitter account. “She reached out to her team, just saying, ‘Hey, Ice’s been a big Taylor fan since she was little, she’d love to collaborate if that ever happened. “”
It turned out that the feelings were mutual. “I had listened to it nonstop, as if I was preparing for my [Eras] tour, I was just listening to Ice Spice constantly,” the “Anti-Hero” singer revealed. “So I immediately got his number and said, ‘Hey, would you like to do your version of ‘Karma’? Does this concern you? So she jumped head first.
Swift first confirmed the “Boy’s a Liar” rapper’s involvement just a day before the remix’s release in a jam-packed Instagram announcement on Wednesday, May 24, also revealing that new releases from her Midnights album and his “Snow On the Beach” collaboration with Lana Del Rey would arrive this week. “I’m a huge fan of this brilliant artist and after getting to know her, I can confirm: this is the ONE to watch,” she wrote of Ice at the time.
“Getting to know her has been so special because I’m blown away by her,” Swift said in her Spotify segment. “In my opinion, she is the one to watch. Looking at her work ethic and how thoughtfully she approaches her career, she’s like my new favorite artist and I’m so honored to have her on the song.
Ice also called Tay the “sweetest person ever” after the remix was announced, and Friday shared a cute picture to her Instagram Stories with the singer in the studio.
