A large crowd gathered at Prattville High School on Thursday to celebrate the accomplishments of many county students as well as the school board holding its regular meeting to transact important school business.
After the meeting officially began, Superintendent Tim Tidmore addressed the crowd of parents and school staff, calling on student Taylor Gloystein to step forward and let the group know what how exciting it is that the board recognizes the students.
“It’s probably one of the best types of board meetings we can have because we recognize so many students for their accomplishments,” Tidmore said. “Taylor, who hails from Prattville High School, is our National Merit finalist. She was awarded the Raytheon National Merit Scholarship.
Following the applause for Gloystein, the next group of students to be recognized were the All-State Choral Students and the All-State and All-District Band Students.

After the recognition and applause for the students, Tidmore expressed his gratitude to everyone, saying, “It is important for the board to see how many students we have who are participating or excelling in the fine arts or d other extracurricular activities, so I appreciate all the good work that our directors and choirmasters do.
Dr. Rachel Surles, who directs Federal Programs, Assessment and School Accountability in Autauga County, then called on all students who will enter the military after graduation to be recognized.
Referring to some of the parents she spoke with in preparation for the recognition, Surles commented, “I went through the same thing that some of you parents go through three years ago, so I understand.”
