Microsoft made a drastic change to the taskbar with its latest Windows 11 desktop operating system, putting the Start menu front and center. Although the majority of users liked it, some do not. While some users would love to get the Windows 10 taskbar back with the old Start menu, some prefer a macOS-like dock instead of the same old Windows 10 taskbar. Well, if you’re into the latter, we have something special for you.
Get a macOS-like Dock in Windows 11
TaskbarXI (via Ghacks) is a nifty customization program that can help users customize various taskbar elements in Windows 11. Among other things, the software in development can turn the Windows 11 taskbar into a macOS-like dock. Although the functionality is very limited as the TaskbarXI software itself is in its infancy, it adds a refreshing view to the taskbar in Windows 11.
TaskbarXI aims to be the successor to the popular Windows customization program TaskbarX. However, as mentioned above, it is still in its early stages. It does not yet have a graphical user interface (GUI). Nevertheless, you can get the C++ program from its official Github page to add macOS-like dock in Windows 11.
Now, it’s worth mentioning that the utility currently only works on the Windows 11 home screen, so when you maximize a window, the taskbar will return to normal. However, on the desktop, it will appear as a single dock, with the lower right system tray as a separate, smaller docking station.
Additionally, you can change the alignment of the macOS-like dock taskbar in Windows 11, placing it at the bottom left. Moreover, the utility supports DPI scaling and works with Windows 11 light and dark themes.
However, since the software does not yet have a GUI, the only way to close the program and return to the default Windows 11 taskbar is to close the program from the task manager and restart it. file explorer to apply the changes. Also, the latest version of the software, according to the developer, is “for testing purposes only”.
Still, if you still want to try the feature on your Windows 11 computer, download TaskabrXI using the link here, run the executable, and turn the default Windows 11 taskbar into a macOS dock. Also, let us know your thoughts on the dock in the comments section below.
