MLS All-Star Tajon Buchanan May Transfer Soon
Tajon Buchanan could be on the move shortly with the MLS transfer window about to close.
The New England Revolution star forward, who just won an excellent performance in the CONCACAF Gold Cup for Canada, is heading to Europe. A source familiar with the situation told ‘MLS Multiplex’ that Buchanan has several contenders in Europe and that Club Brugge (Belgium) and SC Freiburg (Germany) are two of the favorites to land the winger.
The source said the Revolution was trying to transfer the player and then loan him to the MLS squad for the remainder of the season. The secondary MLS transfer window ends on August 5.
The Revolution entered the midweek home game against Nashvile SC at 11-3-3 (36 points). They are four points ahead of the Seattle Sounders in the league and eight points above Orlando City in the Eastern Conference.
Tajon Buchanan a rising star for the club, the country
In 12 appearances (nine starts) in 742 minutes played this season, Tajon Buchanan has three goals and three assists. In his three MLS seasons, the 22-year-old has 45 appearances (24 starts) with five goals and seven assists.
On Wednesday afternoon, he was named to the MLS All-Star Team that will face Mexico’s La Liga MX All-Star on August 25 at Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles.
He has a total of nine appearances with the Canadian national team, including five starts in the recently concluded Gold Cup where he scored one goal and one assist in 435 minutes of play. His goal came in Canada’s loss in semi-final against Mexico.
He was named Scotiabank Tournament Top Eleven for his five extraordinary games.
Tajon Buchanan contenders are strong clubs
If the move ends with Tajon Buchanan putting pen to paper for Club Brugge or SC Freiburg (or another club), he would be the last young Canadian to leave MLS for a big European team. Perhaps the most momentous decision came in 2018 when Alphonso Davies left the Vancouver Whitecaps for Bayern Munich.
On the contenders’ side, Bruges won the Belgian top flight last season and is in the Champions League this year. As for Freiburg, they have just landed a respectable tenth place in the Bundesliga and have a squad that is widely regarded as solid for the second best league in the world.
