Round up your uptown girls (and guys) for an unforgettable evening of live music.
The Timmins Symphony Orchestra with Jeans ‘N Classics presents Back to Back – The Music of Billy Joel and Elton John. It takes place on June 25 at 7:30 p.m. at Thériault Catholic High School.
The set list includes classics like Moving Out, Piano Man, Big Shot, Rocketman, Tiny Dancer and Don’t let the sun go down on me.
The show took two years to prepare.
It was originally scheduled to hit the stage in April 2020 and was canceled due to the pandemic.
Conductor Josh Wood is happy to finally bring the show to life for local audiences.
For the show, Jeans ‘N Classics will perform classic songs from the legendary performers.
“Their MO is that they want to expand symphonic audiences by collaborating with orchestras and performing some of the most famous pop and rock music of all time,” Wood said.
The band’s musicians, he said, are exceptional performers.
“And they also wrote these very large, lush orchestral maps that the orchestra will play with them. It’s basically a rock and pop show backed by an orchestra. Talking to them, they wouldn’t want me to tell them to back off, they say the orchestra is an equal partner in the presentation. It’s a really cool overall experience,” Wood explained.
With a lot of excitement in the community ahead of the 2020 show, Wood wanted to make sure the show happened.
“From my perspective as a musician, I know how difficult it has been for musicians over the past few years and I really wanted to honor our commitment to them,” he said.
Newmont Porcupine has also been an important community partner.
“They jumped in with a big title partnership and that helped us keep ticket prices down, helped us be able to bring the band in,” Wood said.
Tickets for the show are $40 and are available at the Timmins Museum: NEC or at the door if still available.
