Sven Botman has called Newcastle United summer transfer target Renato Sanches ‘special’ on the midfielder’s Instagram.
Eddie Howe’s side were linked with a host of players in the 2022 summer transfer window and Sanches was one of the players on their list.
A hard-hitting midfielder, with great ball-carrying ability and also a key member of a Lille side that surprised many by winning the Ligue 1 title in the 2020/21 campaign, it was understandable why he was so sought after.
Newcastle knocked on Lille’s door and signed one of their key players, and although Botman was an excellent capture, he was the only player they were able to lure from the French club.
With Joelinton already thriving in charge of Premier League midfield, added to the vision and technical ability of Bruno Guimaraes, it would have been a midfielder had Sanches joined.
Instead, the hard-hitting Portugal international ended up signing for French champions PSG.
SANCHES DESERVES TO PLAY CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FOOTBALL
Many will remember this teenager who landed on the doorstep of Swansea City from Bayern Munich and how very raw he was at the start of his career.
Sanches simply wasn’t ready for Premier League football, but this season in Swansea colors has played a big part in his current situation.
Nonetheless, as he began to warm up in PSG colours, including scoring from the bench on his Ligue 1 debut for PSG, injuries have set him back in the past two weeks.
Either way, he should be a key player for the Champions League trophy-chasing squad, including an important player for Portugal ahead of the 2022 World Cup.
