Sustainable bond markets miss an options trick – Risk.net

Sustainability bonds – a large part of the financial sector’s arsenal in the war against fossil fuel use – are failing to achieve their goal. Notably, according to the director of the Anthropocene Fixed Income Institute (AFII) think tank, because traders have not understood how the products should be traded.

In 2023, bond issuance with coupons tied to social or green performance indicators fell to about $60 billion, from more than $100 billion two years earlier, according to the nonprofit Climate.
