The holiday season is upon us, which means it’s time for Christmas cheer, holiday songs and heartwarming surprises. Now, two of the biggest stars in music and one of the most famous names in late-night television are teaming up to deliver all three in one piece.
Ariana Grande, Megan Thee Stallion and Jimmy Fallon are releasing a single at midnight (December 7) titled “It Was A… (Masked Christmas)”. The tune is also reportedly accompanied by a music video, and it looks like it will be marketed not just as a fun collab for Fallon’s show, but as an actual single.
The news was shared by Fallon himself on Twitterwith the late night host writing, “Guys. Can’t believe I’m typing this but…” and then divulging the details. Grande replied saying“funniest ever. love you!!! both so much”, and Stallion did the same, commenting simply, “I love you all.”
The three musicians have never worked together before on an official release, and with such popular personalities attached, it’s bound to be a hit upon release. The air arrives in time to make a play for Billboard chart dominance, as holiday-related smashes still perform exceptionally well at this time of year. Currently, four beloved songs are in the top 10 of the Hot 100, with tracks from Mariah Carey (“All I Want for Christmas is You”, No. 3), Brenda Lee (“Rockin Around the Christmas Tree”, #3). 4), Bobby Helms (“Jingle Bell Rock,” No. 5) and Burl Ives (“A Holly Jolly Christmas,” No. 7) rise to the top of the tally.
“It Was A… (Masked Christmas)” will be Grande’s first single since teaming up with The Weeknd for their “Save Your Tears” re-release earlier this year. This smash shot straight to No. 1 on the Hot 100 once the future Nasty the star joined in the fun. Stallion has been busy throughout 2021, dropping tracks on her own and with other musicians like Lil Baby (“On Me”), Ozuna, DJ Snake and Lisa (“SG”) and even BTS (“Butter”). , who she recently performed with during their series of sold-out shows in Los Angeles, California.
While Fallon is primarily known as an actor from Saturday Night Live and a host of his own namesake The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, he also enjoyed some success in the music world. He scored a top 40 on the Hot 100 several years ago alongside Black Eyed Peas frontman Will.I.Am with “Ew!”, which originated as a skit for his own program. “It Was A… (Masked Christmas)” marks Fallon’s first single in seven years.
