The worst injury of Super Bowl LVIII so far didn’t happen in a game.
San Francsico 49ers starting linebacker Drew Greenlaw apparently injured his leg while running onto the field after a play. After jumping in excitement several times, Greenlaw took a step forward, immediately fell down and started grabbing his left leg.
He ultimately had to be carted off the field at Allegiant Stadium.
Greenlaw was then announced as doubtful to return with an Achilles tendon injury. An injury is always bad news, but Greenlaw also missed the Niners’ Week 18 game. with Achilles tendonitis.
Greenlaw is an important part of the Niners’ elite defense. Playing alongside All-Pro Fred Warner, the 26-year-old had 120 total tackles, five tackles for loss, four passes defended and 1.5 sacks during the regular season. He’s already made three tackles in over a quarter in the Super Bowl.
