Playing Super Bowl squares games has long been a staple of the Big Game and even predates the recent legalization of sports betting in much of the United States. Now sportsbooks are getting in on the action and offering odds on number combinations for Super Bowl 57. The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles face off at 6:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, and you can bet on the squares of the Super Bowl 2023 until kickoff.

Picking the right numbers can be tricky because while most Super Bowl 57 bets only give you two options, there are 100 squares on a grid of Super Bowl squares. Even with that, making square picks for Super Bowl 2023 isn’t just a game of chance, as strategy is built into it as well. Before you get into the 2023 Super Bowl square pools, be sure to check out the latest tips on the 57 Super Bowl squares from longtime NFL expert Mike Tierney.

Tierney is a seasoned sports journalist whose work appears periodically in The New York Times and The Los Angeles Times. Tierney has covered the NFL for decades and brought in seven Super Bowls. He enters Super Bowl 57 on a 56-39 throw on NFL picks, returning nearly $1,300 for $100 players. He identified several strategies to increase your chances of winning Super Bowl squares.

A Super Bowl square pool is easy to install. It has 10 columns and 10 rows of 100 empty squares with the Eagles or Chiefs assigned to the rows and the other team lined up with the columns. Owners will then write their names or initials in the boxes before each row and column is numbered from zero to nine.

With random numbers, contestants decide whether to buy boxes in a group or scatter them across the grid. When squares are auctioned after the column and rows are numbered, owners want squares that correspond to scoring play totals, such as touchdowns and field goals.

To win, a person must own the square that corresponds to the last digit of each team’s score. For example, if the Chiefs hold a 6-0 lead after a quarter, the person with the square with Kansas City 6 and Philadelphia 0 wins. That person also wins if the first quarter ends with the Eagles leading 10-6.

Rules vary, so check with the organizer beforehand. There can be payouts after every quarter, every game scored, or only after the final score, thus ensuring a high payout. See the optimal strategy of the 57 squares of the Super Bowl.

How to Win at Super Bowl Seats

One of the tips from Tierney’s Super Bowl squares: It says to avoid 2 and 5 as much as possible. Two have hit just 2.68% of the last 56 Super Bowl final scores, while 5 has hit just 2.23% of the time.

The last time 5 hits came back in Super Bowl XLV was between the Packers and Steelers when Green Bay won 31-25. It took a late 2-point conversion from Pittsburgh in this one to get to 25, so it’s not something bettors can count on very often. You have to go back to 2004, when the Patriots beat the Panthers 32-29, to find a 2 hit example. Head over to SportsLine to see his Super Bowl 2023 squares tips and advice.

Super Bowl 2023 Optimal Squares Strategy

Tierney knows which numbers and combinations hit the Super Bowl squares most often. He says there are two number combinations that have hit in 20 Super Bowls, or nearly 36% of all previous games, so those squares can give you a big advantage. See what they are at SportsLine.

So what numbers should you pay a premium for in your Super Bowl 2023 football pool, and in what combinations? Visit SportsLine now for Mike Tierney’s in-depth Super Bowl 57 box strategy, all from the seasoned expert who netted seven Super Bowls, and find out.
