Strictly Come Dancing brings Blackpool to Elstree! Stars of the show complain they can’t make it to the iconic Tower Ballroom due to COVID-19
The usual Strictly Come Dancing ride in Blackpool had to be canceled this year – another key linked to the pandemic in the works for the 2020 series.
But Blackpool was brought to Elstree for Saturday night’s live show – as the dancers ‘brought the essence’ of the iconic ballroom location to Strictly Studios.
While the celebrity contestants admitted they were ‘gutted that they couldn’t go’, they were sure to still put on a Tower Ballroom-worthy spectacle.

The pros kicked off the show with a pre-recorded routine, paying homage to the beach town, before Bill Bailey and Oti Mabuse took to the floor for the night’s first dance, at I’ve Got You Under My Skin.
Wearing typical lounge attire, the opening pair paid homage to Blackpool week with a classic routine. “It was almost like we were in the tower ballroom! host Tess Daly commented after the dance.
“53 years ago, I danced for the first time in the inconic ballroom! Judge Shirley Ballas said, gushing: ‘It was touching – thank you! ”
Co-judge Anton Du Beke was also impressed, calling the performance ‘heaven’, while Craig Revel Horwood criticized Bill’s’ ugly ‘footwork, but otherwise dubbed him’ a revelation ”.
Next was Maisie Smith. She described being in the bottom two last week, and barely surviving elimination, as “the worst feeling on the planet!”
She and Gorka Marquez danced salsa, correcting their questionable performance from the previous week, with Anton deeming it “wonderful” and “formidable”.
“Incredible, incredible isolation! Craig sprang up. All three judges pointed out that there had been an unstable landing at one point, but Gorka admitted fault for it, with the judges agreeing to this and giving them a trio of 9.
JJ Chalmers and Amy Dowden danced another classic routine to honor Blackpool for For Once In My Life.
Hoping for an improvement over last week’s scores – where they were at the bottom of the leaderboard – Craig was a little nicer to them this time around, with Shirley exclaiming how ‘thrilled’ she was. of performance.
They received the highest score they have received this season – a 7/9/9.
