Stratford has hired Lawrence Haywood, Jr. as its new men’s basketball coach.
He replaces former coach and current athletic director Romie Reed, who guided the team to the 2018 Class 2A state semifinals.
“Coach Haywood is a welcome addition to our dedicated team,” said Stratford principal Michael Pratt. “His extensive knowledge of basketball and connections to the community will allow the Spartans boys to compete and dominate at the highest level.”
Haywood served as an assistant coach at Antioch, MLK and Maplewood and was named MNPS middle school and freshman basketball coach of the year three times.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside my Stratford family – the players, staff, alumni and fans. I am strongly committed to helping student-athletes find their purpose and prepare to excel not only on the field but also in college, in their careers and in life,” says Haywood. “Let’s go, Spartans.”
