Stranger Things superfans go all out for an extravagant Halloween display, including a FLOATING Max… leaving viewers baffled as to how the ‘floating’ child stays awake

A few Stranger Things superfans who make horror props went above and beyond to decorate their homes for Halloween this year.

Dave and Aubrey Appel, who live in suburban Chicago, spent what they estimate to be 1,500 hours covering their home in a Stranger Things setting.

But the most shocking display is ‘Floating Max’ – a levitating display of Sadie Sink’s character that has left viewers scratching their heads as to how well it stays put.

Sadie appears on the Netflix show as a child called Max Mayfield who, in one episode, begins to lift off the ground while being tormented by a demon.

The Calls recreated the moment on their lawn without any visible strings and posted a video of it on TikTok, garnering more than 14 million views.

People who saw the Floating Max display online and in person were struck by the mystery of how Dave and Aubrey pulled off the trick.

Dave told Good Morning America that he’s keeping “Floating Max” a secret to avoid spoiling it for kids who come to see it with their parents.

“Until Halloween is a little out of season, I don’t want the kids to come looking for how we do it.” I want them to be like, “Wow!” he said.

“I want someone’s parent to point to their kid and say, ‘Look, Max is floating around in his backyard!’ And that kid would be like, ‘Holy cow!’ is also how they did,” he explained. “There’s magic in front of their face, the adults have no explanation and it’s not something you get a lot anymore.”

Floating Max turns out to bear a distinct resemblance to the Calls’ baby girl, Brooke, much to the dismay of their neighbors.

Dave and Aubrey had to assure people that they weren’t suspending their daughter in the air for the purposes of their exhibit.

However, they still got into trouble with a neighbor, who complained about crowds coming to see the Stranger Things house.

In response to the objection, Dave and Aubrey announced earlier this week that they would be removing the posting.

“The conversation sounded like fans at City Hall,” Dave told ABC7 Chicago. “It was very strong: ‘We like what you do. Thank you so much for helping the community and doing something good for the community.”‘

Joliet Police Department Sergeant Dwayne English said: ‘I would encourage the public to, you know, if they’re going there, to be careful where they park and make sure that he parks legally, also to respect the property of others. ‘
