EXCLUSIVE: Euphoria Star Storm Reid is in negotiations to star in Sony Pictures’ Stage 6 box office hit sequel Research. Will Merrick and Nick Johnson will helm the sequel, which will have a similar theme to the original which starred John Cho, but will tell a different story.
Sony has not commented on Reid’s involvement.
Research 2The plot plot is still hidden, but it will feature a new set of characters and an evolved Screenlife thriller format where the story takes place on the screens of the characters’ devices. The original played Cho as a father who breaks into his daughter’s computer when she goes missing, in a desperate attempt to find her.
The film is produced by Natalie Qasabian, Aneesh Chaganty, Search Party’s Sev Ohanian, Adam Sidman and digital cinema guru Timur Bekmambetov who also produced the first film. Jo Henriquez is executive producer and Congyu E co-produces. Merrick and Johnson wrote the screenplay, based on a story by Sev Ohanian and Chaganty. The studio is aiming for a spring production start.
Sony Stage 6 and Screen Gems films released Research in 2018 after its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. Directed by Chaganty and produced by Bekmambetov, Ohanian, Qasabian and Adam Sidman, the film Screenlife received rave reviews and grossed over $ 75 million worldwide.

It is replaced by CAA, Management 360 and Felker Toczek Suddleson and Abramson.
