He pulled out all the stops by closing the AT&T park in San Francisco for the proposal, hiring a live orchestra, and inviting his close friends and family.
The park was lit up with the letters “PLEASE MARRY ME,” and Kanye sealed the deal with the glorious cushion-cut diamond. Kim Kardashian’s engagement ring cost around US$2 million (or AU$2.8 million), which Kim shared with her millions of Instagram followers with a one-word caption: “YES!!”

Kim and Kanye’s wedding took place in France with Kim’s first ring in hand, but Kanye couldn’t help but spoil his wife for a second time. On September 27, 2016, Kanye presented Kim with an even more impressive ring from Lorraine Schwartz. Made with a 20-carat emerald-cut diamond with an estimated price of US$5 million (or AU$7 million), the diamond was so flawless and clear that it was considered one of the rarest in the world .
Kim revealed the sweet story of how Kanye gave it to her, sharing the details in an interview. “So I was sleeping and he woke me up in the middle of the night and said, ‘Baby, baby! I bought you something from Adidas. And I said, ‘OK, I’m going to get the shoes tomorrow morning, baby, I’m sleeping.’ …And then he put the Lorraine Schwartz box on my pillow…and I woke up! He said, “You know I just did this big contract with Adidas, so I bought you something from Adidas.”” As a sweet joke between the couple, Kanye got the word’Adidas’ engraved inside the ring.

Kim had shared photos and stories with her Snapchat and Instagram followers showcasing her usual OOTD with the new alliance. Kim was known for her incredible collection of jewelry worth millions of dollars, so it came as little surprise to her followers that she was showing off the huge rock!
This social media spree continued as she traveled to Paris in October 2016 to support her model sister, Kendall Jenner. Kendall walked the runway for Paris Fashion Week for the first time in her career. Kim and Kourtney were staying in a private room at the No Address Hotel for the week. On October 3, Kourtney, Kim and stylist Simone Harouche returned to their bedroom to change. Kourtney and Simone were going out, but Kim stayed to work on her computer.
The events that followed were recounted by a horrified Kim at 4:30 a.m. on October 3 in a police report filed with French authorities. Kim said, “I heard a noise at the door, like footsteps, and I shouted asking, ‘Who is there?’ Nobody answered. I called my bodyguard at 2:56 a.m. Through the door, I saw two people coming, plus the night man who was tied up.
Kim described her traumatic experience, as five robbers proceeded to subdue her. “They grabbed me and took me down the hall. I was wearing a bathrobe, naked underneath. Then we went back to the bedroom and they pushed me onto the bed. And, this time, they tied me up with plastic cables and taped my hands, then they put duct tape over my mouth and legs.
After tying up Kim, the thieves walked away with two mobile phones, a box full of jewelry worth an estimated $6.7 million (or AUD 9.56 million), or about 1,000 euros (or 1 A$593.13), and Kim’s second wedding ring. They even stole her purse, leaving her only her luggage.

Unfortunately, even after Kim Kardashian filed the police report, the stolen ring was never found. Ten people have been charged as suspects in the theft. The alleged ringleader, Aomar Khedache, claimed he had difficulty finding buyers for the ring because it was too recognizable, leading him to pass it on to an unknown third party.
Only one piece was recovered from the loot: a diamond-encrusted cross worth €30,000, which one of the robbers dropped in his haste to get away. The cross was found by a passerby a few hours later. The police suspect until today that some of the stolen parts were sold in Belgium.
Did Kim get a replacement?
After the horrific incident, Kim has been much more discreet about posting her bling on social media. This decision has a lot to do with the suspects admitting that seeing all the photos of her jewelry was a reason they stole her. She even said just a few months after the robbery, “I really don’t know if I’ll ever feel comfortable, I really don’t know if I’ll ever wear real jewelry again.”
Despite this, Kim was seen in September 2018 with a diamond engagement ring. It’s unclear what carat the new ring is, where it came from, or whether Kim or Kanye decided to have the new one made. Maybe Kim didn’t have a new one made and just went back to wearing her first ring. Hopefully, with Kim’s wariness of theft and her newly beefed up security team, no one tries to steal her again.
