Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is at a point where he’s probably more famous as a Hollywood superstar than a WWE wrestler.
After breaking into Hollywood with “The Scorpion King” in 2002, The Rock has had more hits than misses. As a result, The Rock gradually moved away from the ring. The Rock has only wrestled 7 times since 2003, which is an absurdly low amount considering the attention he still draws every time he steps inside the squared circle.
One wrestler who witnessed The Rock’s rise through the Hollywood ranks is “Stone Cold” Steve Austin.
The now-retired professional wrestler has had his fair share of fabricated drama and feuds with The Rock. You could say the two were the totem poles of the WWF’s Attitude Era, an era that many consider the golden eye of modern wrestling. Plus, just like The Rock, Austin has tried his hand at Hollywood. Although he hasn’t starred in as many movies as The Rock, Austin has several notable acting credits to his name, such as 2007’s The Condemned and 2010’s The Expendables.
So when Steve Austin says something about The Rock, we have to listen, which is exactly what happened in a recent interview with Sportskeeda Wrestling.
This larger-than-life character that he was in this movie, and then he almost didn’t try to fit Hollywood standards. No, no, no, just let me do it my way. So what I love about The Rock is that he goes, “Hey man, I’m not just gonna mold myself.” I’m just gonna be me, and that’s what he did. He took over Hollywood single-handedly.
For what it’s worth, Steve Austin wasn’t exaggerating when he said The Rock had conquered Hollywood. He is currently the highest paid actor in the world, with over $20 million per film.
After starring in back-to-back box office hits despite the pandemic, The Rock’s influence will only grow. He’s set to make his DC Extended Universe debut as Black Adam on October 21. Meanwhile, The Rock will bank in the years to come with sequels from Red Notice, Jungle Cruise, Jumanji and Hobbs & Shaw all in the cards.
