‘A part where whatever I look like is exciting’: Stephanie Beacham, 75, calls Coronation Street her favorite job in her 60-year career
Stephanie Beacham has revealed she can ‘breathe a sigh of relief’ reviving her Martha Fraser character on Coronation Street as it’s one of her favorite roles from her 60-year career.
The 75-year-old actress, who rose to fame playing glamorous Sable Colby alongside Joan Collins in 1980s American soap opera Dynasty, said it was “exciting” to hit the cobbles because she doesn’t have to worry about “what I look like”.
Stephanie first took on the role of Corrie in 2009 before making a brief return to the role last month.

The veteran star admitted she could finally use her professional training from RADA as she played Martha, who has Alzheimer’s disease.
She told The Mirror: “Taking a role where it doesn’t matter what I look like is a very exciting thing.” It didn’t matter how I was lit or what angle I was shot from. It makes me breathe a sigh of relief and think, “Finally!”
“The important thing was to play the character as I was taught from the inside, rather than focusing on the outside. Beneath the outer wrapper, so to speak, I am a fully developed and still developing creature. with so much life experience to bring to a role.

Stephanie is looking forward to taking on similar roles in the future and does not plan to retire as it “keeps me young”.
She added: “I don’t think actors retire. We keep going until we can’t anymore. Acting, with all of its challenges, keeps me young.

Martha courted Ken while living on a houseboat, having recently separated from her husband, believing Ken to be a widower after telling her that her son Peter’s mother had died.
They bonded over a shared love of literature and after falling in love with each other, they eventually kissed.
Riddled with guilt, Ken exposed his marriage to Deirdre, triggering Martha’s decision to end their affair.
But the couple still couldn’t resist, eventually sleeping together and planning to leave Weatherfield before Ken had second thoughts and stayed with Deirdre.
