Stadia’s Android app deploys an experimental “filter search” to make it easier for you to find items in the store.
In April, Stadia’s web app got a proper search bar, allowing players to find the games and expansions they are looking for by searching by name. Since then, many have been waiting for a similar feature to be rolled out to Stadia’s mobile apps. Our latest APK Insight teardown revealed that Google was working on a new “filter” system for the store.
As spotted by DethAlive on Twitter, the Tests page in the settings of Stadia for Android has a second switch called “Filter search”. As explained in the parameter description, this version of Stadia research is only meant to be a stopgap while developing a suitable research.
Adds a text filter bar to Stadia Store item listings, making it easier for you to find what you’re looking for. Support for more advanced search features is under development.
Once activated, each of the various listings offered in the Stadia Store, such as “New Releases”, “Stadia Pro Deals” and “All Games”, will have a search bar at the top. As you would expect, you can type something in the bar – “border” to search for items related to “Borderlands”, for example, as seen below – to filter the list.
Notably, there is no global search bar for the Stadia store, which means that some things like finding a particular DLC for a game will always be a bit difficult. For a temporary feature titled “Experimental,” however, this is good enough and certainly a lot better than the previous methods of finding what you need in the store.
