Stacey Solomon is hailed by fans as ’empathetic and caring’ as presenter helps heartbroken couple create their dream home in emotional episode of Renovation Rescue: ‘When you fix up someone’s house, you also repair his sorrow”

Stacey Solomon has been praised by fans after a heartfelt episode of Renovation Rescue saw her transform a couple’s home after a horrible few years.

In the second episode of the new Channel 4 series, aired on Wednesday, the presenter visited Darryl and Jo in South Devon after their passion project turned into an absolute nightmare.

Between dodgy builders, redundancies and terrible health problems, the couple were left heartbroken after already spending a whopping £300,000 renovating the house.

And when Stacey met the couple, she was tasked with making the remaining £30,000 of the couple’s budget go the extra mile by helping the couple discover how they could carry out some of the remaining work themselves.

In one emotional episode, Jo broke down in tears as they sat in the (almost) completed house, and she reflected: “It’s been so horrible and we get lost a bit too, but to now be able to share with the children and enjoy it. It will take a little time to realize that we can.

Darryl and Jo had remodeled three homes together so were no strangers to the renovation process.

However, after starting the process in 2020 they realized within a few months that all was not what they seemed and things quickly turned sour.

Darryl explained: “Firstly we had a leaking roof which meant we had water all over the floor. »

Jo then added: “But when this started happening, we also started to wonder what else was really going on.”

After calling in a building inspector, the pair discovered that much of the work already completed did not comply with building regulations and they had to start the work from scratch.

However, the couple had already handed over £127,000.

“All that money we paid, it’s dead. Straight into the dumpster, Darryl admitted.

As if that wasn’t difficult enough, the couple also had a particularly difficult year as Darryl was made redundant and Jo had serious health problems when she caught Covid.

“At the beginning of April, I had Covid and I was really sick, in the end I was off work for about four months, I was hospitalized about three times. Oxygen, canisters at the house and it really cost us six hours,” admitted Jo.

Choking back tears, Darryl added: “It was horrible because you didn’t know… it’s hard to talk about. You didn’t know where you were [Jo] were going. You took her to the hospital and had to say goodbye, it was a difficult time. It was hard.

At the start of the episode the house looked completely run down, but by the end the couple, with Stacey’s help, had transformed the property into a stunning space with an incredible open plan kitchen and living room.

“Oh my God, I’m so happy for you guys, I want to move in!” Stacey exclaimed when she saw the final result.

Having roughly stuck to his budget, the presenter explained: “I think you probably saved at least £6,000-£7,000 by making your own furniture, wallpapering, decorating, fitting out your kitchen, by laying all your floors. It’s incredible.

“When I first met you, were you no longer in love with this house?” Did you fall in love with it again?

Crying Jo explained: “It’s like moving forward, it’s like the next step. And it’s been so horrible and we get lost a little too.

“But to now be able to share it with the kids and just enjoy it. It’s going to take a little while to realize that we can.

Darryl added: “What we have here is something special and something that’s uniquely us and it’s been a journey, but it’s the start of us being able to look at it in a different way.”

Fans were overcome with emotion after watching the episode as they praised Stacey and her efforts.
